CORRECTIONS POLICY Effective Date: January 1, 2026 Last Updated: March 18, 2026
1. Our Commitment to Accuracy
Matzapich is committed to publishing accurate, fair, and well-sourced journalism. We hold ourselves to the highest editorial standards and take full responsibility when we fall short of them.
When we make mistakes — and every news organization does — we correct them promptly, transparently, and without burying the correction. We do not delete articles to hide errors. We fix them openly and on the record.
2. What We Correct
We issue corrections for:
- Factual errors — incorrect names, dates, figures, statistics, or facts
- Misquotations — inaccurate or out-of-context quotations attributed to a source
- Headline errors — headlines that misrepresent the content of the article
- Photo errors — incorrect captions, misidentified subjects, or wrong photo credits
- Structural errors — articles that create a false impression through omission or framing
- Calculation errors — incorrect math or data analysis
- Spelling errors — misspelled names of people, places, or organizations
We do not issue corrections for:
- Opinion pieces where the writer’s view is later disputed
- Predictions or forecasts that turn out to be wrong
- Differences of interpretation where reasonable people disagree
3. How We Handle Corrections
Minor corrections such as spelling errors or small factual inaccuracies are fixed directly in the article with a correction note added at the bottom stating what was changed and when.
Significant corrections involving material facts, misleading headlines, or serious errors are fixed in the article body and noted prominently at the top of the article with a full explanation of what was wrong and what the correct information is.
Major corrections that fundamentally alter the meaning or accuracy of a story are handled with a separate correction notice published as a standalone item, linked from the original article.
All corrections include:
- The date the correction was made
- A clear description of what was incorrect
- The correct information
4. Correction Notice Format
Corrections on articles appear in this format:
“Correction: An earlier version of this article stated [incorrect information]. The correct information is [correct information]. This article has been updated. — March 18, 2026”
5. Updates vs Corrections
We distinguish between corrections and updates:
- A correction means we got something wrong and are fixing it
- An update means new information has emerged that adds to or changes a developing story
Updates are labeled clearly as updates, not corrections, and do not imply an original error was made.
6. Retractions
In rare cases where an article is found to be so fundamentally flawed that it cannot be corrected — for example due to fabrication, serious sourcing failures, or irreparable factual errors — we will retract the article entirely.
Retracted articles are not deleted. They are replaced with a retraction notice explaining why the article was retracted, what it claimed, and why those claims could not be sustained. This maintains a transparent public record.
7. How to Report an Error
If you believe you have found an error in our reporting please contact us as soon as possible. We investigate every correction request seriously and respond within 4 hours during business hours.
You can report an error in three ways:
By email: contact@matzapich.com Please include the article title, URL, the specific error, and the correct information with any supporting sources if available.
By contact form: matzapich.com/contact Select “Report a Correction” from the Subject dropdown and include the article URL in your message.
By social media: You can tag us on X/Twitter at @matzapich. We monitor our mentions and will follow up via direct message.
8. Response Time
We aim to respond to all correction requests within:
- Factual errors: 4 hours during business hours
- Photo or caption errors: 4 hours during business hours
- Headline errors: 2 hours during business hours
- Major structural errors: Same business day
We operate Monday through Friday 8 AM to 8 PM EST. Correction requests submitted on weekends are reviewed first thing Monday morning unless the error is urgent.
9. Editorial Disputes
If you disagree with how we have covered a story but there is no factual error — for example you believe our framing was unfair or our sources were one-sided — this is an editorial dispute rather than a correction.
Editorial disputes can be submitted to contact@matzapich.com and will be reviewed by our senior editors. We take these seriously and may publish a response, a follow-up article, or a letter to the editor at our editorial discretion.
10. Letters to the Editor
We welcome responses to our journalism from readers, experts, and public figures. Letters should be no longer than 300 words, include your full name and location, and be sent to contact@matzapich.com with the subject line “Letter to the Editor.”
We reserve the right to edit letters for length and clarity and cannot guarantee publication of every submission.
11. Transparency Log
We maintain an internal corrections log that tracks every correction made across all published articles. This log is reviewed monthly by our editorial leadership as part of our ongoing commitment to quality and accuracy.
